Experience
I earned my bachelor's degree in Spanish and Chicano/Latino Studies. Following that, I went on to earn two master's degrees, one in Social Work focused on Urban Education Policy and the other in Education with a Special Ed focus. After graduation, I began working as a teacher in New York City, working with students with moderate learning disabilities. As part of this job, I worked with other teachers in the school to experiment with a number of different strategies that were tailored to the specific needs of the individual students. Through this, we discovered the benefits of using interactive media for some students. I also worked with the parents of the students to better understand their needs and what worked best for them. A key for me in working with students with disabilities is developing and instilling in them a certain level of confidence. I am comfortable tutoring in the subjects of Spanish, Latin American History, World History, and Math, as well as working with students who need to improve their organizational skills. When I'm not in the classroom, I love to read anything that makes me a better person, and I also enjoy staying active by running and playing tennis.
